Garrett Davis - Bio



I am an architect, developer, and manager with over thirty years of experience in the insurance industry and specifically in applying data processing technology to the industry. I have designed, sold, installed and supported major enterprise systems from inception through production and maintenance. I have held both management and design / development roles for several software vendors and several major insurance carriers, supporting both commercial and personal P&C lines as well as life/health insurance. I communicate easily with management, underwriters, claim adjusters, actuaries, and programmers. And I have managed operating departments, maintaining consistent service levels, improving procedures, and delivering business value with limited resources.


My roles have included the following:

  • Consulting, business requirements analysis, design, and implementation.

  • Business development and client relationship management.

  • Project definition, statements of work, and contract drafting.

  • Project estimation, planning, scheduling, and progress reporting.

  • Management of multiple teams, including subcontractors, individual contractors and independent organizations, offshore and onshore.


  • Development manager - supported development and sales of all PC-based software for a life insurance software vendor, including marketing support software, sales data retrieval and agent-to-company communication systems, and interfaces to medical data providers.  Managed a group of thirty consultants, developers, and project managers. 
  • Developer - built from scratch several complete enterprise solutions, including the following:
    a premium finance company administration system;
    a policy administration system for life, health, disability, and other employee benefits;
    a billing, inventory, billing, and receivables system used by distributors in several industries. 
  • Financial accountant - in charge of preparation of all financial statements for a regional automobile insurer, including a complete Annual Statement.  Participated in negotiations with reinsurers, and managed the insurer's data processing performed by a service bureau.   
  • Auditor - participated in financial audits of corporations in many industries, including a steel mill, an insurance carrier, and a mortgage bank. 
  • Entrepreneur - founded and operated a software company and sold accounting systems to several hundred small businesses, most of whom had never previously used computers.
